Abstract
Response property is evaluated by the experiment in laboratory in line with design of experiment in order to evaluate the response properties in visual task of driving an automobile. It is examined for subjects to detect or recognize a target symbol in a foreground scene superimposed on the front view scene in an automobile that is a background scene. It is shown by analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the design of experiment (DOE) that what kinds of factors are sensitive to response time such as the range of appearance, size and intensity of illumination of target symbol, and fixation task in foreground scene and speed of an automobile and demand of traffic in background scene. It is also seen that the event related potentials (ERP) P300 measured as physiological signal explain the meanings between the effect of speed of an automobile and demand of traffic. A new model of information processing for visual task is proposed in order to show the reason for the results obtained in this experiments instead of conventional models.
