Abstract
This paper investigates the effects of parking policies in central urban areas to the demand for commuter park-and-ride facilities. In particular, the impact of the introduction of the new parking management scheme in the Athens central area, to the demand for parking at the Fix park-and-ride facility located at the city outskirts is investigated. Demand data for the periods before and after the introduction of the parking management scheme are analyzed, any other trend not related to the impact of the new parking scheme is removed and a non-parametric statistical test (Man – Whitney U test) is applied. These preliminary results provide evidence of the positive impacts of the new parking policy to the demand for commuter park-andride facilities.
