Abstract
In order to enhance efficiency, accuracy and automation of measuring asphalt pavement texture depth, this study combined laser light technology with digital image-processing technology. A method of measuring asphalt pavement texture depth based on structured-light technology is proposed. Firstly, the 3-D data for the asphalt pavement was collected by laser triangulation using infrared lasers and an area-array camera. Secondly, an algorithm was developed for de-noising the original 3-D data. A method was designed to calculate the asphalt pavement texture depth based on the 3-D data, and deviation and correlation analyses were conducted from comparisons of the measured values using this system with those of the physical sand-patching method. The results showed that the asphalt pavement texture depth measured above deviated mere 0.15 mm from the figure obtained by sand patching. The correlation coefficient was 0.9368. This system gives stable performance and high reliability, and therefore has good potential for engineering applications.
